CBEST or PPST Tests
Taking the C-BEST or PPST tests prior to program admission:
Students applying to the Graduate School of Education must complete either the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) or the PRAXIS Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) prior to applying to the department. Registration information and exam schedules are available through the School of Education, PSU Testing Services,
or the websites below.
CBEST:
The purpose of the CBEST, which was developed to meet requirements of laws relating to credentialing and employment, is to assess and verify acceptable proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics skills in the English language. The CBEST is not a measure of teaching skills or abilities. Instead, it measures more basic educational skills that are needed and used by professional staff members in schools that offer academic programs in kindergarten, grades one through twelve, and adult education.
For registration, costs and test dates, visit the CBEST web site at http://www.cbest.nesinc.com.The test dates include Oregon, but note the pre-registration dates - students must registerin advance of test dates!
The C-BEST web site offers online practice tests for no charge at http://www.testprepreview.com/cbest_practice.htm.
PPST (Praxis I)
The Praxis series is a set of rigorous and carefully validated assessments that provide accurate, reliable information for use by state education agencies in making licensing decisions.
For registration, costs and test dates, visit the PRAXIS web site at http://www.ets.org/praxis. Pre-registration is required.
