ASD Outcome Study

In 1998, the Oregon Department of Education embarked on an extensive project to improve the educational services for children with autism spectrum disorders. The project began with the five-year Autism Spectrum Disorders Outcome Study, which tracked the educational progress of 121 children with autism.

At the conclusion of the study, a collaborative partnership between the Oregon Department of Education, Portland State University, and Regional Programs was established to design and implement a network of training sites located throughout the state. Through this project, training classrooms have been developed statewide for teachers to learn effective, research-based instructional strategies for teaching children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
