What is the Student Health Fee and Why Do I Have to Pay It?
The Health fee that students are assessed is a mandatory fee that includes a Basic
Insurance Plan of $7,500 medical maximum per condition. Students may elect to pay for
the voluntary Supplemental Plan for additional coverage. In paying the health fee,
students who have personal medical insurance may submit claims to both of their
insurance companies to help offset any balances they may have.
The fee is in place to support the Center for Student Health and Counseling. Health
professionals from this department promote health and safety on campus through committees
such as the HIV and Safety Committees and the Interpersonal Violence Task Force. They also
lecture to classes on health related topics and act as consultants for faculty. They respond
to health emergencies on campus such as TB, suicide and sexual assault. If students have
personal insurance and do not wish to utilize the Center for their personal care they are
still reaping the benefits of having health officers on campus, ensuring PSU is a healthy
place for them to attend classes.
