FAQs
All Portland State websites that use the enterprise (centrally supported) Drupal content management system include a Google Analytics code to gather data about site users and activity.
Request access to PSU's Google Analytics report
Send e-mail to ucomm-support@pdx.edu. The e-mail should include:
- the fact that you'd like access to the Google Analytics report and
- the e-mail address(es)* of those that need access.
*E-mail addresses must be non-PSU accounts. Since Google Analytics is not one of the applications available to us as part of the Google Apps @PSU package, you must use a non-PSU e-mail address (not an address ending with @pdx.edu) to access that application. You can create a new account with a free service like Gmail (recommended) or supply an e-mail address for an existing personal account.
Log in to Google Analytics and view data
Once you have access to the report, go to Google Analytics at www.google.com/analytics. Click the Access Analytics button to go to the log in screen. Enter your non-PSU e-mail address and password, then click the Sign in button. NOTE: Log in to Google Analytics in a different browser than you use to view your e-mail/calendar/sites/groups/documents and other Google Apps @PSU products. Alternatively, log out of the PSU Google Apps before logging in to Google Analytics.
From the Account Home screen, click the "UA-4991908-1 - http://www.pdx.edu" item and then the "www.pdx.edu [DEFAULT]" link. This opens the overview screen for AUDIENCE data. As you make your way through the left-hand menu, you'll find screens that provide reports on all sorts of data.
Filter the data for a specific site
Here's a specific example for filtering page visit data to a single site. You can use this filtering strategy for any Google Analytics page that includes the Search box tool.
- Click the Content menu item, then Site Content, then Pages.
- Enter the site address (minus the www.pdx.edu) in the search box and click the Search icon.
The screen goes grey for a moment then redisplays with a list of the most-visited pages for that site.
