International Business Studies Certificate

The International Business Studies Certificate provides undergraduate students with an educational foundation in the field of international business. Certificate requirements include the study of cultural, economic, social, and political aspects affecting business operations.

International Business Studies Certificate Requirements

Students must be admitted to the School of Business Administration and complete degree requirements for a bachelor's in business administration, including all requirements for one (or more) of the major options and all certificate requirements below.

Choose three from the following:

  • MKTG 376 - International Business (4)
  • MKTG 407 - Global Brand Management (arranged)
  • MKTG 466 - International Marketing (4)
  • FIN 456 - International Finance Management (4)

Non-Business Requirements

  • Foreign language, two-year proficiency (24)
  • Eight credits of economics courses from the following:
    • EC 340 - International Economics (4)
    • EC 440 - International Trade Theory and Policy (4)
    • EC 441 - International Monetary Theory and Policy (4)
    • EC 442 - The Multinational Enterprise in the World Economy (4)
    • EC 445 - Comparative Economic Systems (4)
    • EC 446 - Institutional Economics (4)
    • EC 447 - Economics of Transition (4)
    • EC 450 - Third-World Economic Development (4)
    • or other upper division economics courses related to international studies--with adviser approval
  • 16 credits of area studies related to language chosen

International Business Certificate students are encouraged to spend one or more terms in overseas management training work experience. One option is to participate in the Portland State AIESEC exchange program for business and economics students, but other overseas internships and exchange programs are available through the School of Business.
