Class Standing
Pre-term registration dates are prioritized according to student class standings, which are determined by the number of credits earned. Credits earned are completed courses and don't include current term registration which have not been completed. Class standing credits earned are as follows:
| Standing | Quarter Credits Earned |
|---|---|
| Freshman | 1-44 |
| Sophomore | 45-89 |
| (90+ credits = upper division) | |
| Junior | 90-134 |
| Senior | 135+ |
| Postbac grad or undergrad holds a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. | |
Registration Deadlines
Each term there are deadlines related to adding and dropping classes, making grading option changes, withdrawing from classes, and tuition refunds. It's important for students to be aware of these deadlines as they affect student financial obligations and how courses are recorded on Portland State University transcripts.
In general, classes may be added online during the first week of the term. During week two courses may be added with instructor permission. Classes may be dropped during the first two weeks of the term without being recorded on Portland State transcripts. Classes may be withdrawn during weeks three through seven of a term, withdrawn courses are recorded on Portland State transcripts as "W" grades. Grading option changes may be made during the first seven weeks of a term. For details, see the Academic Calendar.
