Meet Mark A. Gregory

As Associate Vice President (AVP) in Finance and Administration, Mark Gregory oversees a team of outstanding unit managers and directors responsible for facilities and planning, campus sustainability, information technology, housing and transportation, and campus auxiliary business units.  He is also directly engaged in PSU’s real estate negotiations, development activities and sustainability initiatives.

In addition to coordinating the university operational efforts, Mark works to build and maintain key partnerships within the region that can aid in the university's expansion and ongoing mission.  In short, Mark's efforts help PSU to serve the region, grow in capacity and achieve global excellence. Mark has been with PSU since 1998 staring as Director of Computing and Networking and becoming Chief Information Officer (CIO) in 2000, as CIO Mark was the 2005 recipient of the Oregon IT Executive of the Year award.  In 2006 Mark’s role expanded to include the broader responsibilities as AVP.

Prior to joining PSU, Mark served as Technology Manager and Senior Associate for the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory in Portland, and before that as a Research and Development Engineer for a Chicago-based high tech firm.  Mark's background also includes starting and running a technology services firm of his own.  Mark holds an MBA from PSU (1998) and undergraduate degrees in Computer Science/Mathematics and Psychology (U. of Illinois, 1989). He has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses for PSU.

Since 2003 Mark has been partnering with non-profits, other universities and volunteers to bring technical training and donated surplus computing equipment to needy schools and libraries in the US, Guatemala and Ecuador.  He is also actively involved in various Portland area sustainability and alternative/renewable energy technology efforts and groups.

Little known facts

Mark keeps busy off campus by hiking, whitewater kayaking and spending quality time with his wife and family in Portland.  Mark's friends say he plays a mean blues harp and flute... but that he really should keep the banjo playing effort "on the back porch" for a few more years.
