Manaswita Dutta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at Portland State University and a certified speech-language pathologist. Her research interests include understanding the nature of cognitive-linguistic changes that occur as a result of aging and neurological impairment. More specifically, her research examines the relationship between extralinguistic cognitive functions (e.g., attention, executive functioning) and language and its impact on functional communication and psychosocial outcomes of individuals with aphasia and other acquired neurogenic language disorders. Her current work focuses on cognitive assessments as well as spoken discourse analysis and outcomes in aphasia and bilinguals with Alzheimer's Disease. Previously, she has worked clinically in medical settings and taught several undergraduate and graduate courses on aphasia, neuroscience, cognitive and communication aspects of aging and acquired brain injury, speech anatomy and physiology, and research methods. At PSU, Dr. Dutta directs the Adult Language and Cognition Research Lab.
