The programs of the Population Research Center (PRC) provide public service to Oregon and support the missions of the PRC, the College
of Urban and Public
Affairs, and Portland
State University.
The Oregon State Data Center (OSDC)
program's mission is to provide easy and efficient access to U.S. Census Bureau
data and other state-related information through a wide network of lead,
coordinating and affiliate agencies in Oregon.
Affiliate members around the state are viewed as regional experts representing
knowledge about their local areas.
Applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the PRC
involve research, teaching, public service, and consulting. GIS is the backbone
of many applied and academic research projects at the Center.
The Population Estimates program produces annual population estimates for Oregon
and its counties and cities, as well as the estimates by age and sex for the
state and its counties. These estimates are widely used by the state and local
governments, various organizations and agencies for revenue sharing, funds allocation,
and planning purposes.
