New Faculty Orientation

Welcome new colleagues! The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) hosts an annual fall orientation program for new faculty (holding academic rank at .50 FTE and above). The program provides opportunities for new faculty to learn about academic priorities, receive information about campus resources and meet their new colleagues. New faculty with appointments effective with the new fiscal year (7-1-XX) automatically receive orientation invitations from OAA in August and September. (Faculty who joined Portland State earlier in the year may contact OAA if they wish to attend the orientation.)

The Office of Human Resources New Employee Briefing is offered throughout the year as appointments are made. The program includes information you'll need right away as a new employee at PSU. The program includes information to help you select and enroll in your benefits plans (this does not occur automatically), information about payroll, holidays, vacation, sick time, medical leaves, training about critical campus policies and a brief history about the origins of PSU.

Faculty should plan to attend both the HR New Employee Briefings and the Fall New Faculty Orientation program. If you recently have been hired and have not received an invitation to attend a briefing, please contact Human Resources at 503-725-4926 or email askhrc@pdx.edu.

In addition to participating in the briefing and orientation programs, we encourage new faculty to create informal networks with their colleagues, ask questions, especially at the departmental level, and click on the Faculty Resources tab listed on the OAA website. This listing includes the ABC's of PSU (available on-line only), a listing of internal faculty development funding opportunities, the New Employees' Webpage hosted by HR.  Note the faculty support resources available through the Center for Academic Excellence.

We look forward to meeting each of PSU's new faculty members. Please drop in at our office in Market Center Building, suite 650 to say "hello."
