Drawing on the $25 million recently awarded to Portland State University for sustainability research, PSU President Wim Wiewel is doubling funding for student projects.

Wiewel is offering $70,000 to fund such projects, after seeing the high quality and sheer number of projects submitted to a student idea generator.

Ideas have ranged from research into community matters to ways of making Portland State’s campus run greener. Students from every school and college on campus submitted ideas in a staged process sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Processes and Practices at Portland State.

Students were encouraged to submit proposals to a public review early this month. They could revise their proposals based on suggestions received at the review.

The selection committee will name the projects chosen for funding by the end of this month. Students will complete their projects, and will present them at a campus event in June.
