Portland State University has royalty coming this fall: Victoria Dinu, Portland’s 2010 Rose Festival Queen.

Dinu was crowned Queen of the 15-member Rose Festival Court on Saturday, June 12. She plans to enroll as a freshman at PSU in the fall to study public relations.

Dinu is a four-year honor student at Portland’s Grant High School who learned to play the violin at age 5. She plays with the Portland Youth Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. She also teaches violin and ice skating, all while participating in several school sports and activities.

She chose to attend PSU because “it’s a fabulous school in the middle of a thriving sustainable city," she said.

Dinu remembers visiting the campus as a child when her older sister attended PSU. She likes the friendliness of the people at PSU, the campus architecture and its location in downtown Portland.

“If you love Portland, Portland State is the way to go,” she said. “It’s the perfect match for me.”

Dinu has another connection to PSU. Her mother, Joana Dinu, works for the PSU Foundation.

In her year as Queen, Dinu will represent Portland and the Rose Festival at events nationally and internationally while she attends PSU.
