Portland State University’s Summer Session is gearing up for classes and special events, including an animation conference and German school anniversary. Registration is now open with classes starting on June 25.

Portland State’s Summer Session is Oregon’s largest academic offering of the season. Last year more than 9,200 students enrolled in approximately 1,600 sections; this summer’s enrollment and offerings have already surpassed 2006. Traditional, new and seasonal offerings create a spirit of inventiveness on campus.

Official admittance to the University is not necessary for PSU students to enjoy summer courses. The “quick entry” enrollment process takes only a few minutes and costs $10 before registering for classes. In addition, flexible enrollment allows students to register (space permitting) up until the start-date for specific classes.

“This is the time to accelerate your academic track or finally take that class you’ve been meaning to for the past few years,” says Glen Sedivy, Summer Session director. “From Conflict Management to Power Yoga, Ballroom Dancing to the Mathematics of Poker, from Nonviolence and Public Policy to Learning Gardens and Sustainability Education, Portland State’s Summer Session has endless opportunities for full-time students and life-long learners alike.”

The complete Summer Session catalog and schedule is posted online at www.pdx.edu/summer. Printed color editions of the catalog are available for $1 at the PSU Bookstore and the School of Extended Studies. To register, visit www.pdx.edu/summer or call 503-725-3276. For more information e-mail summer@pdx.edu or call 503-725-3276.

Animation Universe Conference, June 29–July 1

The 2007 conference of the Society for Animation Studies will be held this year at Portland State University. The theme for this year’s conference is “Animation Universe,” which continues previous discussions that explore the many roles and influences animation has in global society. Dan McLaughlin, chair of the MFA program in animation at University of California, Los Angeles, will give the conference’s keynote address. For more information, contact Daniel Pirofsky, assistant professor of art, coordinator for Digital Media Instruction and Technology Management, Portland State University at 503-725-8247 or pirofskyd@pdx.edu.
