What: Portland State University and local community members will honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy through community volunteer projects on MLK day. Lead by the University’s Student Leaders for Service, students, faculty, staff and community members will combine their efforts to build community by linking the university with local service agencies in the Portland Metro area and engaging in meaningful activities on this special day. The variety of service projects range from planting native species on Goat Island and serving and cooking meals at the Blanchet House, to supporting families by cleaning, cooking and playing with kids at the Ronald McDonald House near OHSU.

Background: Student Leaders for Service, sponsored by PSU’s Center for Academic Excellence (CAE), provides students, staff and faculty with opportunities to be campus leaders and represent Portland State University in community service and civic engagement activities. Community-University Partnerships in CAE is focused on supporting students, faculty, and community partners in developing and maintaining mutually beneficial partnerships that engage in public problem solving and have educational outcomes.
