PSU Foundation Announces Officers

(Portland, Ore.) December 5, 2008 – The Portland State University Foundation announces four officers to join the executive committee of the board of directors. The full executive committee is composed of 11 officers. The elected positions are president, first vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The board comprises up to 50 elected volunteer members who help govern the PSU Foundation. Their role is to raise and manage funds and provide advocacy to support the mission of the University.

ucomm_johnpeterson1.jpgJohn Petersen, president of the board, has served since 2004 and chairs the executive and personnel committees. Petersen is also a member of the committee on directors, real estate committee, and entrepreneurial activities taskforce. For the past 30 years, Petersen has been an active community leader establishing relationships with top-tier developers and borrowers in the region. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar; past board member and service award recipient of the Oregon Mortgage Bankers Association; director and 2001 Portland chapter president of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties; and board member of Cowlitz Bancorp.

ucomm_marcfovinci1.jpgMarc Fovinci, first vice president, also joined the board in 2004 and is in his third year as vice president of investments. Fovinci is responsible for overseeing the board’s investment goals, objectives, and policies, as well as monitoring and reporting on investment performance. He is chair of the investment committee and a member of the executive committee and committee on directors. Fovinci is a former member and past treasurer of Loaves & Fishes Centers; former chair of Loaves & Fishes Portland dine-out committee; former chair of the member satisfaction, membership, and community grants committees of Rotary Club of Portland; treasurer of Portland Rotary Charitable Trust; investment committee member of Morrison Child and Family Services; former president of Noontime Toastmasters and Toastmasters International; former president and treasurer of Northwest Taxable Bond Club; and member of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Society of Portland.

, secretary of the board, joined in 2005. He is a member of the executive, development, and real estate committees. He is also a member of PSU’s Centennial Society. Fink is a board member and past board chair of Providence Child Center, St. Mary’s Academy, and Janus Youth Programs. He is also a board member of Holy Names Foundation.

, treasurer of the board, joined in 2005 and is chair of the finance and audit committee, and a member of the executive, investment, and development committees. Fahey also serves as a member of the PSU M.B.A. program advisory committee and is the former chair of the PSU accounting alumni committee. Fahey serves on the board of the Portland Family of Funds; United Fund Advisors; Ontier Inc; Daverci Solutions; Portland Screw Company; the Portland International Conference on Management of Engineering and Technology; and the YMCA Teen Division. He is a trustee of the Mt. Angel Abbey Foundation and chaired the capital campaign for St. Juan Diego Parish.

The PSU Foundation was incorporated in 1963 with a mission to cultivate and manage both monetary and volunteer support for the University. Gifts to the Foundation advance PSU by providing scholarships for outstanding students, supporting faculty research and instruction, and enhancing facilities and program development and growth.
