Portland State University (PSU) and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) are now accepting applications for their new joint Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management program, which begins in January 2009. PSU's Graduate Business Programs Office is holding an information session from 6 - 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, to talk about this program as well as the other unique business degrees offered at PSU. The information session will be held at PSU's Smith Memorial Student Union, room 238 (1825 SW Broadway).
The only MBA of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, the MBA in Healthcare Management is designed for working professionals who seek to become leaders in the healthcare industry. The 72-credit MBA fully integrates the healthcare industry into traditional MBA coursework. Built upon the foundation of PSU's top-ranked MBA+ program and OHSU's Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management, the joint MBA brings together the faculty and resources of both PSU and OHSU.
"This partnership exploits our MBA+ program's strength in leadership, innovation, and sustainability, and OHSU's expertise in medical and healthcare provisioning to advance professionals in one of the Northwest's biggest and most dynamic business sectors," said Scott Marshall, associate dean of Graduate Programs and Research at PSU's School of Business Administration.
Students will include physicians, nurses, administrators, and others with management responsibilities in healthcare organizations, insurance providers, and other healthcare-related companies. In addition to gaining a systematic understanding of the American healthcare industry and relevant business knowledge, MBA graduates will develop the interpersonal and organizational skills necessary to manage cross-professional teams and lead profound change.
To accommodate the working professional, the MBA in Healthcare Management is delivered part time using a combination of online and in-person learning. In each 10-week term, students will participate in two "residencies" at OHSU's South Waterfront campus. Students will typically take three years to complete their MBA.
PSU is the largest university in Oregon with an MBA+ program that is ranked in the top 25 percent of all Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business international accredited full-time MBA programs. OSHU is the state's only comprehensive academic health center providing world-class educational opportunities for tomorrow's healthcare professionals.
The application deadline for the January 2009 start date is Nov. 30, 2008. Information sessions are being held at PSU and OSHU through November and are listed at www.HealthcareMBA.pdx.edu. For more information, contact Lauren Ludwig at ludwigl@ohsu.edu or 503-748-7804.
