Portland State University was selected as one of 122 "Best Colleges in the West" by the 2006 Princeton Review book, The Best 361 Colleges, 2006 Edition, released today. Over 110,000 students at 361 colleges were asked to rate their schools and campus experiences on topics including academics, life at school and fellow students. Targeting college applicants and their parents, the book contains surveys from 62 different rankings ranging from best in the region to most beautiful campus, and top party school to most religious students. The book is designed as a guide to help future students decide which college is best for them.
Another Princeton Review book, Colleges with a Conscience: 81 Great Schools with Outstanding Community Involvement, released in June, listed PSU as well for its record of having excellent service-learning programs and blending academics with community work. In addition, for the past four years Portland State has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" edition as having "outstanding examples of academic programs that are believed to lead to student success" for programs in service learning, internships and co-ops, learning communities, senior capstones and first-year experiences.
Portland State University, Oregon's only urban university is the largest and most diverse in the state system. The University's position in Oregon's economic and cultural center allows for deep community engagement and the creation of partnerships with hundreds of organizations throughout the region-partnerships that give PSU students valuable learning opportunities as they solve real-world problems of business and community. Portland State offers more than 100 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees, as well as graduate certificates and continuing education programs. PSU serves more students and confers more master's degrees annually than any other Oregon university.
