Portland State University will participate in Focus the Nation, an unprecedented teach-in on global warming solutions, January 31, 2008.

The day of events will be hosted by Dave Ervin, Portland State professor and Academic Sustainability Program coordinator, and include a morning panel of faculty experts addressing the science, health and water impacts of climate change, and the economic impact of energy use. The panelists will then be joined by community experts to engage the audience in a discussion of climate change solutions. Community leaders will address state and regional policy strategies, and participants will engage in discussions about what we all can do next to effect change.

The event will run 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom, room 355, and includes raffle prizes and a poster and table session featuring community partners, PSU departments, and students groups involved in all aspects of confronting climate change.

Students, faculty and the community are invited to drop-in or stay for the day to learn, participate and get involved. At the end of the day, symposium participants are invited to travel to the University of Portland for Focus the Nation: LIVE! at the Chiles Center, featuring a live OPB radio broadcast of students from across the state engaging with Governor Ted Kulongoski and other elected officials on climate change solutions. Live Wire! will also be there with climate themed comedy and commentary.
