(Portland, Ore.) June 3, 2010 - Portland State University (PSU) is proud to announce that its new Academic and
Student Recreation Center (ASRC) won first place in the Daily Journal of Commerce's Top Projects competition.
The ASRC won in the Public Buildings $50-100 million category. The judges, a panel of local professionals from
the building industry, based their decisions on whether or not the project comes in under budget, how innovative
the team was in overcoming challenges, and overall quality of work and design. PSU partnered with Yost Grube
Hall Architecture and general contractor Skanska.
"This was one of the most diverse and competitive range of entries that we've had," said Stephanie Basalyga,
editor-in-chief of the Daily Journal of Commerce, "and we were very impressed with PSU's new rec center."
The ASRC is a mixed used building that houses PSU's student recreation center, outdoor recreation center,
general classroom space, City of Portland archives, School of Social Work, the Oregon University System offices,
Bike Hub, and retail space. It was also certified LEED Gold in January, the third building to get Gold on campus.
