End of Academic Year Concerts:
Sunday, June 3, 7:30 p.m., Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom (1825 SW Broadway)
PSU Wind Symphony – Under the direction of Edward Higgins, and conducted by Higgins and Sven Olson, the symphonic band will present their final concert for the academic year. Listen to the collective efforts of wind and percussion players performing new and traditional wind symphony music. The concert is free and open to the public.
Wednesday, June 6, 8 p.m., St. Mary’s Cathedral (1716 NW Davis St., Portland, Ore.)
PSU Chamber Choir – The choir will perform a program of music based on varieties of love. The concert was inspired by the selfless act of Liviu Librescu, the Virginia Tech engineering professor who barricaded his classroom door to protect his students from the gunfire. In his memory, and under the direction of Stephen Coker, the choir will perform works of Haydn, Rheinberger, Ives, Rorem and John Ireland’s anthem, “Greater Love Hath No Man.” Tickets for the concert are $12 for general admission; $8 for seniors; $6 for students and children; and free for PSU students.
Friday, June 8, 8 p.m., Lincoln Performance Hall, room 175 (1620 SW Park)
PSU Symphony Orchestra – Under the direction of Ken Selden, the PSU symphony orchestra presents “Six Degrees of Separation,” with PSU concerto competition winner Eric Allen playing in the Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3, Scottish. Tickets for the concert are $10 for general admission; $10 for seniors; $6 for students and children; and free for PSU students.
Sunday, June 10, 4 p.m., Lincoln Hall, room 75 (1620 SW Park)
PSU University Choir Concert – Stephen Coker will conduct “A Spring Fling,” with the University choir performing works of Mozart, Mendelssohn and Faure, as well as a large selection of international music featuring works from South Africa, Japan, Samoa, Korea and New Zealand. Tickets for the concert are $10 for general admission; $8 for seniors; $6 for students and children; and free for PSU students.
