What: Toby Kinkaid from Oregon Wind Corporation, developers of micro wind
turbines, will unveil brightly colored, lightweight, virtually silent
turbines designed for urban environments that will be installed in
several locations around campus. Portland State University will serve
as a testing ground for this new technology and will measure wind
speed, humidity, temperature, altitude and generated electricity
output. One of the project’s main goals is to test in different
locations with different variables to see how to obtain the most
efficient energy production. A Q&A session will follow the
presentation.
When: Tuesday, February 27, 2007, 10:30 a.m.–noon

Background: Founded in 2003, the Oregon Wind Corporation headquartered in Portland has developed Helyx technology, designed for industrial production of electricity in response to market demands for a quiet, reliable and productive wind generator that is also safe for wildlife. Wind power is captured by the Helyx Wind Generator and converted into rotational torque, which drives a generator that produces electricity. The generator produces electricity in both low and high wind speeds and can be combined with solar panels to provide day and nighttime charging for remote-site electrical loads.
