Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc., will be the keynote speaker at Portland State University’s annual Civic Engagement Awards. Greenfield will speak about corporate social responsibility and will share his experiences integrating progressive social values into the day-to-day activities of a business. Jerry Greenfield has received various civic awards, including the James Beard “Humanitarian of the Year” award, and was recognized by the Peace Museum as the 1997 Community Peacemaker of the Year. His success proves that it is possible to implement civic engagement practices while also building a $200 million international company.

President Daniel O. Bernstine and Provost Roy Koch will confer the awards after the keynote. The awards acknowledge and celebrate the importance of civic engagement in all facets of university life and recognize the civic engagement efforts of Portland State faculty, departments, programs and their community partners.
