What:
PSU’s Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies (IMS) will unveil the 2007 Metropolitan Briefing Book, a biennial publication developed to provide area leaders and citizens with information about issues common to the six-county region, at a presentation of the book’s highlights next month. Several of the contributing experts will present from their work; topics include:
* “Critical Issues 2007: Our Region Speaks Its Mind”;
* “Demographic Dynamics and Policy Issues Facing the Portland-Vancouver Region”;
* “Microclimates in the Portland-Vancouver Regional Economy”;
* “The Great Equalizer? Educational Resources and Achievement Around the Region”;
* “Ecological Landscapes: Connecting Neighborhood to City and City to Region”;
* “Getting from Here to There in the Region”;
* “Public Finance: Differences, Similarities and No Quick Fixes”; and,
* “Regional Diversity and Opportunity: Five Questions for the Future.”

Wednesday, January 3, 2007, 8–10 a.m.
Where: PSU’s Smith Memorial Student Union (1825 SW Broadway), room 238, Portland, Ore.

Background:
The Metropolitan Briefing Book is a biennial publication of PSU's Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies in the College of Urban and Public Affairs. The Briefing Book provides a detailed look at varying factors that shape diverse communities within the region, and serves as a useful fact book for leaders and citizens. In addition to Portland State University, the Briefing Book is sponsored by Metro, Multnomah County Library, Portland Development Commission and the Portland Tribune.
