Gov. Kulongoski to Sign Criminal Justice Policy Bill Into Law at Portland State, Tuesday, July 26

What: Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski will sign into law Senate Bill 240, which creates the Criminal Justice Policy Research Institute at Portland State University, and will give brief remarks. Also presenting will be Senator Ginny Burdick (D- Portland) and Representative Wayne Krieger (R- Gold Beach), who both supported this legislation, as well as PSU President Daniel O. Bernstine and Craig Prins, executive director of the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission.

Background: The Criminal Justice Policy Research Institute is a multi-disciplinary research unit serving the entire PSU community, and housed in Mark O. Hatfield’s School of Government’s Division of Criminology and Criminal Justice. It is designed to provide policy makers throughout the state of Oregon with a forum in which issues of policy and practice may be explored, using objective, performance-based criteria. It is also designed to bring together the varied resources of Portland State University and coordinate those resources with other institutions of higher education to address issues emanating from the justice community.
