What:
PSU will welcome Congressman Peter DeFazio on campus Wednesday to celebrate successfully
securing transportation funding for Oregon.
Congressman DeFazio led the Oregon
delegation in securing funding for PSU's University
Transportation
Center
($16 million) in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation
Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), reauthorization conference bill
(H.R. 3). The legislation was approved by Congress last Friday, and is
waiting to be signed into law by the president. The celebration will
include remarks by the Congressman and Portland State University President
Daniel O. Bernstine.

Background:
SAFETEA-LU
is a $286.5 billion reauthorization of federal highway, public transportation,
highway safety and motor carrier safety programs for five years. $16 million of
the bill is designated to fund the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) at Portland State University
in collaboration with the University
of Oregon
(U of O), Oregon State University (OSU) and Oregon Institute for Technology
(OIT).
