Hannah Hurdle-Toomey will discuss a book she is writing, More Than a Slave, which is about her father, who was born into slavery in the 1840s. The free talk is scheduled Wednesday, May 14, at noon in the Smith Union Multicultural Center, room 228. This is part of the 2008 Blackbag Speaker Series. Michael Munk, author of Portland Red Guide, published by PSU's Ooligan Press, will speak on "Portland's Radical Past" at the Retirement Association of Portland State (RAPS) meeting Thursday, May 15, at 1:30 p.m. in the Astoria Room, University Place, 310 Lincoln St. The talk is free and open to the public. In his book and his talk, Munk tells the stories of Portland radicals and refers to specific places in Portland that one can visit today.

State Board of Higher Education (the “Board”) president, Kirby Dyess, announced today that Dr. Wim Wiewel (pronounced Vim Vee-vell), provost and senior vice president of the University of Baltimore, has been named the new president of Portland State University.
