News: Civic Engagement Awards reception, May 29

Excellence in community-based teaching, learning, and partnerships will be recognized at the eighth annual Civic Engagement Awards reception Thursday, May 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Multicultural Center, 228 Smith Union. President Michael Reardon and Provost Roy Koch will present the awards following Thomas Ehrlich's keynote speech on "Educating for Democracy." Ehrlich, a senior scholar with the Carnegie Foundation, co-directs the Political Engagement project and the Business, Entrepreneurship, and Liberal Learning project. Before joining the Carnegie Foundation, he was president of Indiana University. He has also served as provost of University of Pennsylvania, dean of Stanford Law School, and was a distinguished university scholar at California State University. His most recent book, Educating for Democracy, was published in 2007.

At the celebration, awards will be presented to PSU faculty and staff and community partners for excellence in Community-based Teaching and Learning, Departmental Civic Engagement, Partnerships for Student Learning, and Community-based Research. The event is sponsored by the Center for Academic Excellence and the Carnegie Conversation Series.
