The Department of Music is proud to announce two events featuring two great musical talents. Pianist, composer, and NEA Jazz Master Randy Weston gives a talk on Saturday, February 19. And on February 24, bassist, vocalist, and Grammy nominee Esperanza Spalding presents a jazz masterclass.
Brooklyn born jazz pianist Randy Weston is a true living legend. An internationally renowned performer, composer, and bandleader, he has made more than forty albums and performed worldwide for the past five decades. Weston has been inducted into the ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame, designated a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts, and named Jazz Composer of the Year three times by DownBeat magazine. He is the recipient of many other honors and awards, including France=92s Order of Arts and Letters, the Black Star Award from the Arts Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana, and a five-night tribute at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Weston will talk about his life and work with PSU jazz professor Darrell Grant
Spalding will present a masterclass with PSU jazz students during the Music Department's weekly noon concert series.
