WHAT: The new PSU student group Pan American Solidarity Organization (PASO) invites you to come hear stories from the struggle against Pacific Rim Mining corp exploitation in El Salvador and find out how to get involved!

A special presentation from Salvadorian anti-mining activist Miguel Rivera.

Hear a report back from PSU students who took part in the Committee In Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES) caravan to Vancouver BC to protest at Pacific Rim headquarters last weekend!

Also the hear from the Portland Central American Solidarity Committee about the current efforts here in the US, and what we can do here in Portland to support this effort.

THE SPEAKER
Miguel Rivera is co-founder of Asociación de Amigos de San Isidro Cabañas (ASIC), along with his brother Marcelo Rivera who was disappeared and later found tortured and dead this past June. ASIC accompanies local communities in San Isidro in the struggle to defend and promote their rights, and is part of La Mesa Frente a La Mineria Metalica (National Roundtable Against Metallic Mining). Miguel is one of 5 delegates traveling to the US to receive the prestigious Letelier-Moffit Human Rights Award from the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington DC on behalf of La Mesa.

THE TARGET
Although Pacific Rim is a Canadian corporation, it is using its US subsidiary to sue the government of El Salvador under CAFTA for $77 million in 'lost profits' after being denied the permits necessary to poison El Salvador's water supply in its greed for gold. Pacific Rim has also been connected to the wave of political violence against activists opposing it's El Dorado goldmine, claiming the life of Miguel's brother Marcelo Rivera.
