Undergraduate Admission
Applications for Undergraduate Admission
To apply for an audition and admission to the Department of Music, all students are required to complete the Department of Music Application for Undergraduate Admission and send it to the Department of Music Office at PO Box 751, Portland, OR 97207-0751. If you wish to be considered for the Department Music Scholarships, please also complete the scholarship application and send it along with your Department of Music Application for Undergraduate Admission. Scholarship Application deadline is January 15.

To apply for an admission with Portland State University, please visit the University Admissions, Registrations, & Records website for information and application to apply. You must apply to Portland State University to take classes. To be considered a music major or minor, you must pass the Department Entrance Audition and be officially admitted to the University. Students who are admitted to the University through a quick entry application process are not considered a music major or minor.
The following are major codes that you could use on the University Undergraduate Admission Application to declare your music major and/or minor.
- Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS): MUS
- Bachelor of Music in Performance (BM): MPER
- Bachelor of Music in Music Education (BM): MUED
- Bachelor of Music in Composition (BM): MCMP
- Bachelor of Music in Voice (BM): MUVC
- Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies (BM): MJZZ
- Music Minor: MMUS
- Music Minor in Jazz degree: MJAZ

ADMISSION TO DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC
To apply for an audition and admission to the Department of Music, complete the Department of Music Application for Graduate Admission and send it to the Department of Music Office along with other required materials at PO Box 751, Portland, OR 97207-0751. If you wish to apply for the Department of Music Scholarships and Graduate Teaching Assistant positions, please also complete the scholarship and Graduate Teaching Assistantship applications and send them with your Graduate Admission Application.
