THIS IS AN exciting time for the University. Last month we unveiled a brand new logo, color, and Web site. This month we're mailing the magazine with a new name and design.
Why the change? The time is right. Portland State just completed its first comprehensive fund-raising campaign and brought in millions beyond goal (see story "$114 Million for PSU"). This investment ushered in an unprecedented surge of growth, including new and renovated buildings, new programs, laboratories, scholarships, and professorships. The University has become a regional education and technology powerhouse and an internationally-reputed center for innovative curricula and research.
The time is right to anchor these accomplishments in the public's consciousness through a new look and the way we present who we are.
The process for doing this started with those who know PSU best. More than 3,500 faculty, staff, students, and alumni gave us their opinions on the themes and images they thought uniquely represented Portland State.
The new logo you see here is a result of their insight. It represents the interconnectedness of PSU—a place of engagement and opportunity, a university at once urban and international.
From Portland State's new look came the renamed and redesigned Portland State Magazine.
We thought this was a good time to establish some new content for the magazine, including a short faculty Q and A, a page on the arts titled Fanfare, and a place for alumni to reminisce called Looking Back. We have other ideas that you will see in later issues.
Look for Portland State's new logo, and talk with our students, faculty, and staff about our recent accomplishments. The University just gets better and better.
