Business professionals overwhelmingly appreciate the benefit of having a strong business school in our community and recognize the direct benefit to their companies. Below are the stories of committed corporations and the individuals who have championed corporate support.
Commitment to Community
It's no surprise that Wells Fargo is a great supporter of the business school and Portland State, as it is one of Portland's largest and most philanthropic corporations. Larry Remmers, Senior Vice President and Manager of Wells Fargo Real Estate Group, is a member of the business school's Business Advisory Council and Center for Real Estate Board and has championed Wells Fargo's support for the business school and the Center for Real Estate. Larry sees a clear connection between Portland State University and Wells Fargo: "The success of the School of Business Administration in the community, the classroom and academia is ultimately a reflection on Portland. It's in everyone's interest to be mutually supportive as we all win. We take pride in the small part we play in helping the school succeed." Larry also serves as a mentor to graduate level business students.
Reciprocal Relationships
Moss Adams' support of the Accounting Program and Business Briefings Breakfast Series is strengthened by several of the firm's alums, including Lynn Kingston '88 who chairs the Accounting Advisory Council and teaches courses. The business school's relationship with Moss is reciprocal, as some of our brightest graduates are thriving at their firm. Moss Adams Partner and Portland State alum Judy Dauble '74 articulates Moss's motivation for support: "We at Moss Adams are pleased to support PSU's School of Business. A strong PSU program is absolutely necessary to nurture a vibrant business environment, and to generate the graduates we need to help us serve that community." Moss Adams also supports employee giving with a generous two-for-one matching gift program.
Access to Talent
Many small to mid-sized companies in the area enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship with the business school. Aequitas Capital Management has been a long-term supporter of the school's Fund for Excellence, which is the sole source of funding for creative new projects, as well as a sponsor of an MBA Business Project. President Bob Jesenik has been instrumental in facilitating the relationship between Aequitas and the business school, and has previously served on the Business Advisory Council. "We've received great benefit from having Portland State's business school in the region - in terms of research projects, hiring great talent, and having access to interns," says Bob. He should know - most recently, Aequitas hired one the SBA's most articulate graduates and student speaker for the 2007 Simon Benson Awards, Thomas Ezra '07.
