SHANGHAI, CHINA, HAS scores of recent PSU graduates working and living in the area, and not a one of them traveled to Portland for their degree.
Since April 2005, more than 100 students have earned a bachelor's degree from Portland State via streaming video to a private Shanghai school. Another class is graduating in October.
The Chinese program is part of PSU's mission to expand its reach and prepare students to succeed in a global economy. Courses taught by PSU faculty in computer sciences and electrical and computer engineering are recorded and sent by streaming video over the Internet to students in Shanghai. Chinese faculty lead the classes and answer questions. Students who meet graduation requirements receive a Bachelor of Science degree.
Portland State offers 12 degree and certificate programs online and another four degree programs that require part-time campus attendance. The University is working on a possible joint degree program with South Korea's University of Ulsan.
