B.A. (Major) - Elective Courses and Program Focus

Students (in consultation with their adviser) may elect to leave the Applied Linguistics major with either:

• a broad knowledge of the field, or
• a deep knowledge of one area in Applied Linguistics. 

Elective choices will reflect either a depth of study or a breadth of study.

•  

  • Choose one elective from each of the suggested areas below

  • Focus on foundational courses, e.g., Sociolinguistics, Phonology, Psycholinguistics & Second Language Acquisition

•  

  • Choose most or all electives from the same Focus Area. 

Note: There will also be LING 410 (Topics) courses that could apply to any of these Focus Areas, as determined by the instructor.

Students who complete a TESL Certificate in conjunction with the Applied Linguistics major will be expected to choose Language Teaching/Education as their focus area.
