492 is a strongly recommended preparation to 411 Syntax, particularly for students who do not feel confident about their control of basic English grammar.

Students with a good background in grammar, or who have had a similar course elsewhere, should consult with one of the course instructors as to their readiness for LING 411 Syntax.

The Dept of Applied Linguistics offers an English grammar test in order to allow students with a good background in grammar to waive the LING 492 prerequisite for LING 470.

Students with questions about their level of preparation for LING 470 should speak with the instructor.
