Tutoring How do I access tutoring services? In-Person at the Learning Center You can schedule an in-person appointment in advance via Penji or check-in at the front desk kiosk to see if tutors are available in your subject. Tutors are scheduled to work shifts at the Learning Center, located on the second floor of the Millar Library. Students are served on a first come, first served basis. Remote Appointment via Zoom Schedule a remote appointment by signing in to Penji and requesting either a 15-minute or 30-minute appointment. If the tutor can accommodate this request, you will receive an email with a Zoom link. On-Campus Drop-In Sign in to Penji to view the drop-in schedule. All drop-in tutoring is offered on a first come, first served basis. I was able to think through the solution with their support. Is there a tutor for me? Tutors are only capable of assisting you with classes they have excelled in. These are generally 100-200 level courses. If you don't see your class (e.g., MTH 313) you can try getting help in the subject (Mathematics), but the tutor might not be qualified. Contact your instructor for help if this the case! Sign in to view availability Tutoring at PSU is also provided by other units on campus and may not currently be included on Penji: For additional availability in the world languages: pdx.edu/world-languages/tutoring-services For additional availability in business or accounting: pdx.edu/business/undergrad-tutoring For additional availability in chemistry: pdx.edu/chemistry/tutorroom For additional availability in computer science: cat.pdx.edu/users/cs-tutors For additional availability in engineering: pdx.edu/electrical-computer-engineering/undergraduate-tutoring-information TUTORS CAN HELP WITH Reviewing and clarifying concepts addressed in class or in the textbooks. Clarifying the meaning of an assignment and making suggestions on how to start an assignment. TUTORS CANNOT HELP WITH Tutors cannot help with exams or quizzes. Tutoring is not a substitute for class and tutors cannot do your homework for you. TUTOR SESSION EXPECTATIONS Come prepared with syllabus, book, worksheets and specific problems. Be sure you have attempted the work before you come. They turned a extremely frustrating topic into something I could fully understand. Are you interested in becoming a tutor? We offer tutoring in the mathematics, statistics, sciences, and many of the world languages offered here on campus. Weekly hours vary by term and according to subject need and tutor availability. Tutor Application Form No Show Policy Students may miss up to 3 tutoring sessions each academic year. Each time you are documented as a "no-show" you will receive a warning email. After 3 missed sessions, you will not be able to access any Learning Center services for a 90-day period, starting from the day of the third documented missed session. Extra Credit Policy Some instructors on campus offer extra credit to students for receiving tutoring in their subject. Click on the button in Penji that says "Submit a Session for Instructor Approved Extra Credit" and fill out the associated form. You must be a registered Penji user to access this feature. Need Accomodations? Accommodations such as extra time for a session, getting an interpreter, etc. can be arranged between the Learning Center and the Disability Resource Center. Please email as soon as possible to begin the arrangements: tutoring@pdx.edu.
