Healthy Behaviors
Have you ever felt like if you could just drop a few pounds everything would be great? What about if you could just keep up your daily planner, you'd for sure feel a lot less stressed, right? Ever set out a goal, accomplished it and still didn't feel quite right? Well, you aren't the first.
Often times in our pursuit of health and well being we usualy address only one component of ourselves. Usually that falls under physical or mental health, but what about all the other parts that make us whole? Wellness is multidimensional and comprised of six components: Physical, Emotional, Social, Intellectual, Environmental, and Spiritual. No dimension functions independently of the others. One way to picture wellness is that of a wheel. If one of the parts is weak, the wheel will run off course.
If we spend all our time and attention focusing on our physical wellness but neglect our social wellness, we still won't be operating at our full capacity. The idea is that everything is connected, and while we need to be strong in the body and mind we also need to be strong in spirit and responsible stewards of our planet. Wellness also comes with understanding how the choices and decisions we make directly impact those around us and vice versa.
This Whole Person Wellness Model through the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension will give you a clear picture of this model, with their added dimension of occupational wellness.
