Melody Ellis Valdini (Ph.D. 2006, University of
California, San Diego) is an assistant professor of Political Science. She
teaches courses on Comparative Politics, including classes such as
"Elections and Parties in Europe" and "Gender and Politics: A
Comparative Perspective." Professor Valdini also serves as the Political Science Honors
advisor, the Model United Nations advisor, and is an affiliate of the Center for Women, Politics, and Policy . Her research
examines elections, parties, and representation, with a particular focus on
the effects of electoral system variables on the representation of
women. Her recent publications include articles in the American Journal of
Political Science, and she is currently completing a book
manuscript on the effect of the "personal vote" on the representation of
women.
