John J. Damis, Professor of Political Science and International Studies; Director, Middle East Studies Center. A.B., History, 1962, Harvard College; A.M., Regional Studies - Middle East, 1964, Harvard University; M.A. and M.A.L.D., International Relations, 1966, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy; Ph.D., International Relations, 1970, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Teaching areas: international politics; the politics and international relations of the Middle East and North Africa. His research specialties are the politics and international relations of North Africa. He has published books and numerous articles in these areas, including Conflict in Northwest Africa: The Western Sahara Dispute. He worked as an analyst (1975-1977) and consultant (1977-1984) for the State Department. He was a visiting professor at Harvard University and Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco. He was a consultant in 1993 and 1994 for the United Nations Mission in the Western Sahara and is on the advisory editorial boards of three academic journals.
