Craig Carr (Ph.D. 1978, University of Washington) is Professor of Political Science. He teaches courses in political theory and philosophy, philosophy of law, history of political ideas, and philosophy of the social sciences. He is the author of several books, including, most recently, Orwell, Politics, and Power (2010), Liberalism and Pluralism: The Politics of E pluribus unum (2010), Polity: Political Culture and the Nature of Politics (2007), and The Liberal Polity: An Essay on the Logic of Civil Association (2006). His articles have appeared in wide range of scholarly and legal journals, and have addressed such topics as fairness and distributive justice, morality and law, academic freedom, treaties and customary international law, and the work of Samuel Pufendorf and other natural law theorists. Professor Carr's current research on the social construction of freedom explores the nature of freedom as a political good.
