Continuous Enrollment

Continuous Enrollment (CE) is a reduced tuition rate of $10 per credit (plus mandatory fees) for eligible doctoral students.

Eligibility for Continuous Enrollment

  • Advanced doctoral student
  • Has already enrolled for the minimum number of 603 Dissertation credits needed to complete degree requirements (27 credits for a PhD/18 credits for an EdD)
  • Both eligibility requirements (advancement to candidacy and enrollment in 27/18 dissertation credits) must be completed before a student is eligible for their first term of CE registration

Reduced Tuition Rate for Continuous Enrollment

Per the tuition and fee schedule:

Doctoral students who have advanced to candidacy and completed the minimum
dissertation credits may enroll in the Continuous Enrollment program and pay a reduced
rate of $10 per credit plus applicable mandatory fees

The reduced tuition rate is for 603 CE credits only. If students register for other courses in the same term, they will be assessed regular tuition for those non-603 CE credits.

Mechanism for Continuous Enrollment Registration

Eligible doctoral candidates receive the reduced tuition rate by registering for course 603C Dissertation (C for Continuous Enrollment). When a doctoral candidate becomes eligible for CE, a code will be added to the student information system indicating their eligibility for CE. With this code, 603C credits will be the only 603 credits available for registration.

To register, eligible doctoral candidates will log in to the eBy-Arrangement (eBA) Dashboard with their Odin username and password.

  • When selecting "Course Type" in the eBA, select the 403, 503, 603 (603C) option from the drop-down menu
  • When selecting "Course Number" in the eBA, the only option you should see is 603C

All other fields should be completed as normal. You may want to reference the eBA Instructions for further details on completing an eBA form.

Doctoral candidates who believe they are eligible for CE but are not seeing the option to select the 603C course number should email Roxanne Treece at treece@pdx.edu

It is important to remember that CE is only a reduced tuition rate. It does not change anything else such as the definition of a full-time or part-time student, eligibility to serve as a GA, immigration requirements for international students, or any other type of eligibility that is based on registration: financial aid, health insurance, housing, etc.

Continuous Enrollment FAQs

  • How will I know when I'm eligible for CE?
    • We will notify students at the point of advancement to candidacy whether or not they are eligible, and if not, how many more dissertation credits they must register for to be eligible. The Graduate School will monitor eligibility for CE on a term basis and will notify students individually when they become eligible.

  • I'm classified as a non-resident student in Oregon—am I eligible for CE?
    • Yes. Both resident and non-resident students are eligible for CE when they have met the eligibility requirements as stated above.

  • I'm an international student—am I eligible for CE?
    • Yes. International students are eligible for CE both before and after they are approved for Reduced Courseload (RCL). For information about when international students are eligible for RCL, please contact International Student Services at intl-services@pdx.edu.
