Financial Aid Vision Statement
The Office of Student Financial Aid plays a key role in supporting the PSU vision to Let Knowledge Serve the City. In tandem, President Bernstine has vocalized his vision for this University as " [an] integral part of the community, and that the creation, transmission, and application of knowledge is central to what we do. This interplay of knowledge and community guides our work in the state, the nation, and around the globe." The mission of the Office of Student Financial Aid is to fulfill our role in President Bernstine's vision, by facilitating practices which will cultivate student success.

FAFSA4caster is a financial aid estimator that any student, regardless of age or year in school, can use before officially applying for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA4caster will provide you with an estimate of your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is an index that colleges use to determine what types of federal student aid you may receive. Using your EFC, FAFSA4caster will then determine what types of federal grants, loans, and work-study you may qualify for and will provide you an estimated award amount for each.
If you are a parent or sponsor of a future student, a high school student, or if you are not yet ready to begin attending college but you are ready to begin planning for college, check out Peterson's Planner which might help you get organized as well as the Federal FAFSA 4caster site which will estimate the types of financial aid available to you and your family based on your family resources. There are many websites out there that will help you prepare for college, but beware of sites that will charge you or ask for your confidential or personal information. A great place to begin is at the U.S. Department of Education's Federal Student Aid website.

Once you have submitted your FAFSA, your next step is to check on-line to see if you have any outstanding requirements which are needed to complete the review of your FAFSA application. You can check by logging into the Portland State Student Information System, and then follow the links to Financial Aid and Outstanding Requirements .
Important Note: If you have outstanding requirements, they may prevent the awarding of your file and/or the disbursement of funds. Please read all requirements carefully and complete them as requested. Also, new requests for information may be posted throughout the year. It's recommended that you check for new requirements frequently. You will be mailed an information request postcard to the address listed on file with PSU directing you to check your account if there are new requests posted. It is important to keep your address updated with the University.
