Eligibility for Aid

Apply for Aid

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have the application sent to Portland State University (Federal School Code: 003216). Complete only one application per school year. Both new and continuing students need to complete a new FAFSA for each academic aid year.

Apply for Admission

If you are a new student you can apply for aid before you have started the admissions process; however, you must be admitted to receive aid. For more information, visit the PSU Admissions site for application information. Additionally, once you complete a degree, if you plan to continue your education and receive financial aid, you must be admitted to a new degree or certificate program.

Financial Aid for Transfer Students

If you transfer to Portland State University during the middle of the school year, you are required to meet all the other eligibility requirements described here. To receive aid at PSU, you must have your FAFSA sent to PSU by either adding PSU to the list of school recipients on your FAFSA or by calling the federal aid processor at 800-433-3243 and requesting that your application be sent to Federal School Code 003216.

Eligible undergraduates can receive Pell Grant and Oregon Opportunity Grant. In addition, Federal Stafford Loans are available to undergraduates, post-baccalaureates and graduate students who enroll at least half-time and whose applications are received in time to complete the awarding process. If you received aid at your first school before transferring mid-year to PSU, those amounts will impact remaining aid eligibility at PSU for the remainder of the school year.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

To remain eligible for financial aid, you must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress throughout your academic career at PSU.
