Update: August 2009
I have been working on initial development of the School. We are drafting by-laws for the School and guidelines for the School of the Environment - Environmental Science and Resources PhD program. There are many little wrinkles that we need to iron out as we go through these transitions. The approach we are taking is to develop along problem-oriented science. The School will help support collaborations that will complement the individual research being done by faculty and staff. We have assembled the faculty, research and teaching staff from the three participating departments, the USGS Oregon Water Research Center, and other departments at PSU. At this time there are about 90 affiliated faculty and staff who have PhDs or extensive field and lab experience in the School. There are also 16 centers or institutes in the School. (For comparison, the entire College of Urban and Public Affairs at PSU has 75 faculty and also has 16 centers or institutes.) I am also expecting the number of affiliations to grow this year.
