GTEP Field Experience

An important part of learning to teach takes place in schools and classrooms throughout the Portland metropolitan area. Teacher candidates in the one-year GTEP are involved in field experiences throughout the K-12 public school year. Teacher candidates in the two-year program are involved in field experiences in the K-12 public schools during the second year of the program.

During the GTEP program teacher candidates complete three field experiences:

  • Initial Field Experience: practicum (late Summer and Fall terms)
  • Student Teaching I: half-time student teaching (Winter term)
  • Student Teaching II: full-time student teaching (Spring term)
  • Field placements are identified and confirmed through the Field Placement Office in the College of Education. Detailed information about field placements are sent along with letters of Admission to the program.

Program completion

Once you’ve completed your program, you’ll need to apply for both your teaching license and degree (Masters of Education).
