Doctoral Program Coordinator: Dr. Janine Allen
Janine Allen, the coordinator of the Doctor of Education in the Graduate School of Education, earned her PhD from the University of Oregon and is a professor in the Educational Leadership and Policy Department and teaches in the Postsecondary, Adult, and Continuing Education (PACE) specialization. She has taught ED 640: Organizational Leadership Theory and Research in Education. She currently has 11 doctoral advisees in various stages of their program.
As the former senior student affairs officer at Portland State University and Western Oregon University, Janine is interested in student success and preparing professionals who can meet the challenges to success that today’s students face. Her research interests lie in studying factors that contribute to the success and persistence of undergraduate students, particularly those who have been historically underrepresented in higher education.
Janine’s current research projects include studying academic advising in collaboration with Cathleen Smith, professor emerita of Psychology. They are conducting a multi-institutional study to examine student and faculty attitudes about, and experiences with, academic advising and the implications for student persistence.
