Learning Resources

Portland State University Library has assembled a Counseling & Counselor Education Resource Guide. This guide provides helpful resources that are available to support faculty, staff, and student study, research, and scholarship in the areas of counseling and counselor education. This includes discipline-specific article databases, clinical practice videos, key journals, how to search for books on these topics, citation resources, and more. Michelle Desilets serves as the library liaison for the Counselor Education department and may be contacted with questions about counseling-related study, research, or inquiry.

Portland State offers a number of additional resources to support Counselor Education students’ academic success. The Learning Center fosters academic skill development through academic coaching. The Writing Center offers 1:1 writing assistance and communication-related support.


Student Internships

Students enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling, and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling programs can find information on the internship sequence on the Clinical Experiences website.

Professional Organizations

Counselor Education students are encouraged to join national and state counseling organizations. Membership in professional organizations can be beneficial to students. Periodicals and conferences help members stay in touch with the most recent developments in the counselor education profession, and provide valuable contact for students seeking positions in the field.
