Our classrooms need educators who understand how to create inclusive environments where all students can thrive. The same as any student, students with special needs receive support for their education and future career goals. So, responsive teaching is needed to maintain equity in education. With a certificate in Autism Advanced Concepts in Intervention, expand your understanding and skills in the fields of general education, special education, speech and hearing sciences, social work, psychology, counseling, and health professions. Learn specific techniques, strategies, and environmental modifications to enable children and young adults to succeed in general education, at home, and in the community. Topics include teaching social skills, building relationships, educational implications, transitioning through grade levels, college and adult life, and networks that support the life success for individuals with autism.

Our graduates

The program benefits many types of professionals and nonprofessionals. Our certificate completers come from a  variety of backgrounds including paraeducators, special education teachers, parents of children with autism, speech-language pathologists in addition to staff in community-based social services agencies and residential and day-treatment facilities. Additionally, the series of courses may serve as a pathway for undergraduate and graduate  students considering working with children, youth, and adults who experience disability. The course content is aligned with the Oregon Commission on Autism standards and competencies; however, the program does not lead to the TSPC designation of Licensed Autism Specialist.
