Urban Greenspaces
Under the leadership of Professor Sahan Dissanayake, IEE secured two grants from the US Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station to study the value of urban greenspaces to people of different backgrounds.
IEE partnered with the Forest Park Conservancy and the Institute for Sustainable Solutions at Portland State University to inventory and conduct preliminary estimates of the ecosystem services Greater Portland residents derive from Forest Park. Students in two economics courses conducted the analysis.
The goal of the project, which concluded in 2018, was to support World Bank and low-income country government efforts focused on promotion of sustainable cooking technologies.
