Diversity Assessment at Portland State
DAPS presents information about PSU’s progress towards meeting our diversity goals. We have defined 12 key indicators to track our progress. These indicators relate to campus climate, education and scholarship, student success, and institutional commitment to diversity — all of which are central to our institutional mission.
Campus Climate
Is our campus an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone? Are we listening openly to one another?
Education & Scholarship
Do our students learn about diversity, equity, and social justice? Do our researchers contribute to knowledge in these areas?
Student Success
Are all of our students succeeding? Are we reaching out to all communities? Are we serving all student groups well?
Institutional Development
Are diversity matters at the forefront as we plan? Are we actively learning and holding ourselves accountable?
Acknowledgments
Diversity issues touch every aspect of an educational institution, and evaluating progress is complicated. We are grateful for the guidance we have received from Dr. Daryl Smith, Professor of Education and Psychology at the Claremont Graduate University. Following her advice, we have structured DAPS according to the four “Dimensions of Campus Diversity†described in the publication cited below.
